🏆CC🧭🔵 | Self-Growth | Trusting the Journey: Not the Absence of Doubt Teach Clear, 10/27/201911/08/2026 You have been told to trust the process. To trust the journey. To have faith that everything is happening for a reason. To let go and believe that the path will reveal itself. And you have tried. And the trying did not work, because the doubt did not leave. The doubt is still there. It is in the morning, before the day starts. It is in the night, after the day ends. It is in the middle of the thing, when you are doing it and it does not feel like it is working. And you have interpreted the presence of the doubt as evidence that the trust is not there. That you are not doing it right. That the faith is not strong enough. That if you believed harder, the doubt would go away. It will not. And the fact that it will not is not a failure of the trust. It is the nature of the trust. What trust is not Trust is not the absence of doubt. If trust were the absence of doubt, it would be a state you arrive at, and once you arrive, you stay. And the doubt would never come back. And the path would be clear. And the days would feel easy. That is not how it works. Trust is not a feeling. It is not the warm, certain, “I know this is right” feeling. That feeling comes sometimes. It is not reliable. It is not the foundation. If you build the trust on that feeling, the trust disappears every time the feeling does. And the feeling does disappear. It is not permanent. Trust is not the absence of fear. You can be afraid and still be trusting. You can be uncertain and still be moving. You can not know where this is going and still take the next step. The fear and the trust are not opposites. They are in the same room. And the trust is not the thing that removes the fear. The trust is the thing that moves while the fear is still there. What trust actually is Trust is the decision to take the next step without the guarantee that the step is the right one. Not the whole path. Not the five-year plan. Not the “I can see where this is going in ten years” clarity. The next step. The one in front of you. The one that is small enough to take and large enough to matter. And you take it without the guarantee. You take it knowing that you might be wrong. Knowing that the step might not lead where you think it will. Knowing that the path might shift after you take it. And you take it anyway. That is the trust. Not the belief that the path is clear. The belief that you can handle the path being unclear. That you can adjust. That you can change direction. That you can take the next step even if the one before it did not go where you expected. And that belief is not a feeling. It is a record. It is the evidence of every time you were uncertain, and you took the step anyway, and it worked out. Not perfectly. Not the way you planned. But it worked out. And the record is the foundation. Not the feeling. The record. Why the doubt does not leave The doubt does not leave because the doubt is doing a job. The doubt is the part of you that is paying attention. That is checking. That is asking “is this right?” and “am I sure?” and “what if I am wrong?” And those questions are not the enemy. Those questions are the mechanism that keeps you honest. Without them, you would not adjust. You would not course-correct. You would not notice when the path has shifted and you are still walking the old one. The doubt is the compass. Not the thing that tells you where to go. The thing that tells you when you are not where you thought you were. And you need that. You need the compass. You just do not need to let the compass make the decision. The compass says “you are off course.” The trust says “I will adjust.” And the adjusting is the next step. And the next step is taken with the doubt still there. And that is fine. That is how it works. How to build the record Take the small step while the doubt is there. Not after the doubt leaves. Not after the feeling of certainty arrives. Now. While the doubt is still in the room. The step does not require the doubt to be gone. The step requires the decision. And the decision is: I am taking this step, and I am not sure if it is the right one, and I am taking it anyway. And when you take it, and it works out, you add it to the record. Not as a triumph. Not as a “see, I knew it.” Just as a data point. One more time. One more “I was uncertain, and I took the step, and it was okay.” Stop waiting for the clarity. The clarity does not come before the step. It comes after. And sometimes it comes a few steps after. And sometimes it comes a long time after. And sometimes it does not come in the form you expect. It comes in the form of “oh, that is where this was going” and the realization is not a lightning bolt. It is a slow dawning. A “hmm, I see.” And by the time you see it, you are already three steps in. And that is fine. You do not need to see the whole path before you take the first step. You need to see the first step. And the first step is always smaller than you think it needs to be. Let the path shift. This is the part that is hard, because the “trust the journey” framing implies that the journey has a shape, and the shape is the one you are on, and if you leave the shape, you are losing the trust. That is not how it works. The shape changes. The path shifts. The thing that was the right direction six months ago is not necessarily the right direction today. And the shifting is not a loss of trust. The shifting is the trust working. The trust is not “I will stay on this path no matter what.” The trust is “I will adjust when the path shifts, and I will take the next step on the new path, and I will be uncertain about that one too, and I will take it anyway.” Name the doubt without following it. The doubt says “you are not ready.” You do not have to argue with it. You do not have to prove it wrong. You just have to notice it. “There is the doubt.” And then you take the step. The doubt is still there. The step is still taken. And the taking of the step is the trust. Not the absence of the doubt. The presence of the step. Be patient with the version of you that is still checking. You are not going to stop checking tomorrow. You are not going to stop checking next month. You are going to check, and then you are going to take the step, and then you are going to check again, and then you are going to take the next step. And the checking is not the enemy. The checking is the compass. The enemy is only when the checking stops the step. When the “am I sure?” becomes the “I cannot move until I am sure.” And the “I am sure” never arrives. And the step is never taken. And the path is never walked. The bottom line You do not have to trust the journey in the way you have been told to trust it. You do not have to have the faith. You do not have to believe that everything is happening for a reason. You do not have to let go and believe that the path will reveal itself. You have to take the next step. While the doubt is there. While the fear is there. While the uncertainty is there. And you have to add it to the record. And you have to take the next one. And the next one. And the path gets clearer. Not because the doubt left. Because the steps accumulated. And the steps are the evidence. And the evidence is the trust. The trust is not the feeling. The trust is the record. And the record is built one step at a time. One uncertain step at a time. One “I do not know if this is right, and I am taking it anyway” at a time. That is the journey. Not the faith. The steps. ♦ ♦ ♦ 🎧 If you would rather listen to this one, the audio is here.
