🏆CC🧭🔵 | Self-Growth | Discovering Life’s Purpose: A Journey to Wellbeing and Personal Growth Coach Clear, 05/06/201811/08/2026 You have asked yourself the question. Maybe in a quiet moment. Maybe at 2 a.m. when the house is still and there is nowhere to put the thought. What is this for? What am I doing here? Not the job. Not the schedule. The thing underneath all of it. It is not a question with a single answer. It is not a riddle that unlocks a hidden level. It is a direction. And the direction shifts as you do. What purpose actually is Not a career. Not a calling you announce at a dinner party. Not a single thing you do with your hands. It is the thing that makes the rest of it make sense. The thing that, when your life is pointed toward it, makes the hard days bearable and the good days feel like they mean something. It is specific to you. Two people can do the same work, and for one of them it is purpose, and for the other it is just a job. The difference is not the work. The difference is what the work connects to underneath. For some people it is the work itself. For others it is the people they are in. For others it is the making. For others it is the teaching. For others it is the building, the fixing, the explaining, the staying. There is no hierarchy. There is no correct answer. There is only what is true for you, right now. Why it matters for how you feel This is not a feel-good claim. There is a reason people who have a sense of direction report less stress, less anxiety, less of that low-grade “what am I doing with my life” hum that runs in the background of every day. It is not that purpose removes the hard things. The hard things still happen. But the hard things land differently when they are part of something you chose, rather than something that is happening to you. There is also a physical component. People with a strong sense of purpose report better sleep, lower rates of chronic illness, and longer lives. Not because purpose is a magic substance. Because a person who knows what they are moving toward does not spend as much energy in the background running the “am I doing this right” loop. That loop is expensive. It drains the body even when the body is sitting still. When you do not have a direction, the body pays for the searching. Every day is a small negotiation with itself. What is this for? Is this enough? Am I supposed to want this? The negotiation never ends. And the body keeps the score. Why it matters for who you become Purpose is not a destination. It is a direction. And moving in a direction changes the person who is moving. You step out of the version of yourself that is safe. You do things that are harder than the last thing you did. You fail at them. You do them again. You get slightly better. You do them again. That is not a metaphor. That is the mechanism. You do not grow by thinking about growth. You grow by doing the thing that is slightly beyond what you can currently do, and then doing it again. The person you were a year ago would not recognize the person you are now, if the direction has been consistent. Not because you became a different person. Because you became a more specific one. The edges got clearer. The “maybe” got smaller. The “yes” got bigger. And the confidence that comes from that is not the loud kind. It is the quiet kind. The kind that does not need to announce itself. You just know. You know what you are good at. You know what you will not do. You know what you will do again tomorrow, even if no one is watching. What actually moves you forward Sit with the question, but do not force the answer. The answer does not come from thinking hard enough. It comes from paying attention. What pulled you this week? What drained you? What would you do if the outcome did not matter? Write it down. Come back in a week. See what is still there. Set a direction, not a destination. You do not need a five-year plan. You need a next step. A choice that lines up with what you actually want, not what you were told to want. Then the next one. Then the next one. The direction reveals itself in the walking. Expect the direction to change. This is not a failure. This is the mechanism working. You are not supposed to find the answer at twenty-five and keep it until you die. You are supposed to find a version of it. Live in it. Let it shift. Find the next version. The fact that it changes is not a sign that you got it wrong. It is a sign that you are alive. Do the thing that is slightly beyond you. Not the thing that is comfortable. Not the thing that is safe. The thing that makes you a little nervous. That is where the growth is. Not in the repetition of what you already know. In the first attempt at what you do not. Let someone see you doing it. Not an audience. Not a performance. One person. A friend. A mentor. Someone who will say “that is not what you said last month” or “you do not have to do that, but if you are going to, I will be here.” You do not need a crowd. You need one person who will not flatter you. Thank yourself for the version of you that is still here. Not the version that has it all figured out. The version that is still asking the question. The version that is still showing up. That is not a small thing. That is the whole thing. The bottom line You do not owe anyone an answer. You do not owe the universe a mission statement. You do not owe your twenty-year-old self a justification for where you are now. You owe yourself the attention. The honesty. The willingness to look at what is actually there, without editing it. The direction will come. Not all at once. Not in a single moment of clarity. In the small choices. In the things you keep doing. In the things you stop doing. In the things you do because they are yours, even if no one else can see why. That is the life. Not the answer. The walking. ♦ ♦ ♦ 🎧 If you would rather listen to this one, the audio is here.
